Richard Heene Gets 90 Days in the Slammer

The Balloon Boy stunt captivated a nation. Now it's saddled Richard Heene with tens of thousands of dollars in fines and landed him in jail for three months.

Heene and wife Mayumi, who together conspired and executed the now-infamous Balloon Boy hoax, both were sentenced to relatively light jail terms today.

Richard Heene got 90 days in jail, but that includes 60 days of work release that will let him pursue work as a construction contractor while doing his time.

Mayumi Heene, who was potentially facing deportation if convicted of a felony, will not be. She will, however, serve 20 days in jail after Richard's release.

Both were also sentenced to four years probation after securing a plea deal and have been barred from profiting from the balloon spectacle in any way.

Richard and Falcon Heene

A conniving Richard Heene pretends to be relieved that his six-year-old son Falcon was not actually floating away in a balloon. In reality he planned the whole hoax.

The Colorado couple feigned ignorance when their son, believed to be missing and drifting off in a homemade balloon, was actually in the attic the whole time.

It turns out they were actually trying to shop a reality show about a science-crazed family (themselves) and knew darn well he wasn't in danger. Unbelievable.

Heene choked back tears as he said he was sorry for the stunt, especially to the rescue workers who chased down false reports of Falcon Heene floating away.

Prosecutors are still seeking to recover all the costs of the search and investigation, which are already at $42,000 and quite possibly climbing much higher.

Twilight Saga Town Reality Show: On the Way

Note to fans of the Twilight Saga: Robert Pattinson doesn't actually live in Forks, Washington. Neither does Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner or any member of the cast.

Still, the geniuses behind reality TV have decided to set a new show in the town simply because events from the Twilight saga unfold there.

Said producer Zig Gauthier about casting for the untitled project:

“We’re not going up there looking to cast people who have claims to the supernatural. We want people who have a true connection to the community. We want to avoid people with outlandish claims.”

Okay. So then what's the goal of this seemingly inane idea?

"To peel back another layer of the onion that is Forks and see what the real people there are like," Gauthier said.

Forks, Washington

Therefore, to sum up: Plans are underway for a reality show about random people that live in a town only known nationally because a fictional book series is based there.

Will you watch this nonsense?

Sex and the City 2 Trailer: Get Carried Far Away

Ready to get Carried away, Sex and the City fans?

The first official trailer for this movie's sequel has been released.

The preview doesn't give away many plot details, but it's set to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind," while Carrie appears to still be in love with Big; Charlotte is busy with motherhood; and Samantha is, of course, searching for men.

For some reason, the trailer also depicts the women riding a camel through the desert.

The sequel - which includes a non-speaking cameo by Miley Cyrus - comes out on May 28.

Michael Vick Given Award For Courage

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who joined the team after serving 18 months in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting ring, has won an award.

Not for his performance on the field, where he's thrown one TD pass and run for two more in a reserve role. Vick has won the team's Ed Block Courage Award.

The award honors NFL players who exemplify commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. Recipients are selected by their teammates' votes.

"I still have a lot of work to do," Vick said today after receiving the award. "But having my teammates vote me this award shows I'm doing the right thing."

Profile in Courage

Michael Vick has made quite a comeback in the past year.

He was given a prison sentence in December 2007 of up to 23 months for killing pit bulls, bankrolling a dogfighting operation and lying about it to authorities.

The Eagles were criticized by many for signing Vick after his release, but he has made no excuses and by most accounts he has been a model citizen so far.

"Congratulations to him for straightening his life around," Eagles coach Andy Reid said of Vick. "He's obviously very well-respected by his teammates."

Quarterback Donovan McNabb called the award "well-deserved."

Vick, whose comeback will be chronicled in a reality show on BET, is now up for the league-wide Ed Block Courage Award with one player from each team.

Courtney Love Accused of Abusing Frances Bean

Early last week, we reported that Courtney Love lost custody of daughter Frances Bean Cobain, her only child with her late husband, rocker Kurt Cobain.

What wasn't specified was why Frances Bean is now under guardianship of Kurt's mother and sister (sparking a series of Facebook rants from Courtney).

A new clue has just surfaced, however. Lawyers in the case have asked to seal the documents relating "to a minor and allegations of domestic violence."

Documents were filed by lawyers December 11 for the Cobains' guardianship, which was established on behalf of minor Frances Bean Cobain, who is 17.

A judge stripped Love of legal control over her daughter. Court papers do not get specific, either, but do refer to sealing Frances Bean's medical records.

The docs also say, "In this proceeding, every document reveals details of Frances's (sic) relationship with her mother." It sounds like abuse was alleged.

A restraining order now prohibits "Courtney Love Cobain from certain behavior and from coming within a certain distance of Frances and her guardians."

Love's online ramblings - most recently warning her daughter not to become Jamie Lynn Spears - are well documented, but her attorney says she has not relapsed and this "is simply about Frances preferring to live with her grandmother."

We'll see if more information becomes available and whether that's true.

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins Break Up

Most celebrity break-ups aren't exactly shocking. We scarcely raised an eyebrow when Brody Jenner and Jayde Nicole called it quits this week.

But the following news of a split has taken us by surprise:

"Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer," the actress' rep said in a statement. "No further comments will be made."

The couple met on the set of Bull Durham and never married; but they have two sons together, Jack, 20, and Miles, 17.

Well-known political activitises, Sarandon and Robbins are also multiple-time Oscar nominees.

There's no truth to the rumor that the relationship ended after she took a golf club to his SUV.

Amy Winehouse Charged with Assault (Again)

Amy Winehouse was formally charged with assault earlier today in connection with the recent brouhaha she started at a local theater. Anyone surprised?

The 26-going-on-56-year-old soul diva was arrested after she turned herself in at a police station with her lawyer, a Thames Valley Police official said.

She was charged with a public order offense and common assault under the name Amy Civil, following her Saturday melee at Milton Keynes Theater.

Winehouse was granted a divorce from her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, in July, and is therefore not technically named Amy Civil ... if she ever was.

Anyway ...

Health Personified

One never knows what to expect from this nut job.

She is free on bail and must appear in court on January 20. Police did not provide details on the incident, but British media have had a field day with it.

The Sun reported that the singer allegedly heckled the cast, struggled with a member of the staff, bled on some actors and attacked the manager.

Winehouse is no stranger to roughhousing. She acquitted earlier this year of assaulting a fan who asked for a picture (aptly-named Sherene Flash).

A judge said he could not be sure if she lashed out at the woman deliberately, though police said Amy Winehouse was drunk when she punched her.

Who's next? We'll find out soon enough.
