Batman Comic Book Sells for Record Amount

batman comic first appearance Batman Comic Book Sells for Record Amount

Three days after the first ever Superman comic book sold for $1 million, the comic book from 1939 where Batman made his first appearance was sold by an undisclosed seller to an undisclosed buyer for $1.075 million, which is now the highest amount ever paid for a comic book. The previous owner is a savvy collector who bought the comic for $100 more than 40 years ago.

Shirrel Rhoades, former publisher and executive vice president of Marvel Comics, said high sales for those comics is partly a reflection on the poor economy.

"When the stock market is down, when real estate investments are over the cliff, collectibles offer an alternative that you can invest in that may have some growth potential."

"We’re probably seeing a little bit of a feeding frenzy. With the sale of Action #1 for a million, I think that’s going to keep prices up for awhile."

The problem with making money off collector items is that you may not live to see a profit, so it is best to buy a collector item with the intent of leaving it to your kids to sell later.
