Winning a bunch of awards doesn’t make anyone any smarter we figure. “Precious” director Lee Daniels is a prime example. After winning an award at the NAACP’s Image Awards in Los Angeles, Lee made the following dumb remark on stage. “ No one in Hollywood told me they wanted to see a movie about a 350 pound black girl who had HIV,” Lee said before he immediately realized his foot in mouth moment. Then he tried to make it better by saying “She’s not 350 pounds, Gabby…but the book says…before you were hired.”
Gabourey Sidibe was seen on television looking somewhat uncomfortable at that moment. But the awkwardness and embarrassment were overcome when she won the best actress award. “It’s an honor to be nominated, but it’s awesome to win,” Gabourey said with tears in her eyes.
